Investigate about the locksmith, avoid fraud

There are many ways you can prevent yourself from fraud. Make sure you investigate the locksmith company you are hiring. Check for licensing and insurance. Calling the local city license office will let you verify that the current license has not expired. You can also look online to verify a website or local address. If that NYC locksmith is legitimate, they will be more than willing to offer you proof of the fact. There are signs that you can look for that a company is legitimate as well. You can ask for an estimate before the sale and it should include company letterhead. You should also look to see if the vehicle they drive has the company name on it.

Many local companies are aware that these scammers exist and they are putting in crime prevention strategies for their own companies. Most have developed plans that include company photo ID’s and business cards. They will inform you over the phone whom you can expect for your appointment. They also use professionally made forms for estimates and invoices. When you are looking for a professional company, these should be the signs that you have found one. You should also consider the length of time the company has been in business. People that are trying to commit a crime don’t intend to stick around for long.

In order to protect yourself from fraud, keep these thing in your mind before calling any locksmith.

Issues that New York Locksmith Face

What are the everyday issues or locksmith emergencies that New York Locksmiths deal with through their work?

  • People losing their keys. People lose or misplace their keys all the time. They may lock them in the house or car, and some people have been known to lock themselves out of their car whilst it is still running!
  • The changing of locks. For reasons of security, many New York locksmiths are called to change the locks in a home, penthouse or condominium each time someone new moves in.
  • Most NY locksmiths have had to deal with replacing after a breaking and entering has occurred at a property. This is sad, as this situation could have been avoided if the owner had paid for their locks to be changed when they moved in. It also pays to be selective in which members of a household should carry a key; they can easily end up in the wrong hands.

Mortise Locks Installation Needs Experience and Professionalism

Locksmith Jabber February 9th, 2009

Mortise locks require installation by professionals as they need to make a fine cut in the door. It is best that homeowners do not attempt to install the mortise lock themselves, in case they do it wrong or get injured. If homeowners are experienced in joinery, then it is OK for them to install the lock themselves. Otherwise, it pays (in terms of personal safety and in order to do the job well) to call in a reputable NY locksmith to do the installation.
